Project : Activity with kids
This module helps to foster a sense of care and concern among students for their community, environment and the world at large. It will help develop students' sense of personal and social responsibility. They will learn through participating in a community service experience and will have the opportunity to use their skills and knowledge in real-life situations.
In this project, we had conducted weeks of activities with kids in Persatuan Penjagaan KanakKanak Cacat @ Klang. PPKKCKS is a happy multi-racial home with children of ages ranging from 3 months to 26. PPKKCKS is currently taking care of over 80 handicapped children with disabilities such as Down’s Syndrome, Autism, Blindness, Deafness, Muteness, Mental retardation and others. With consideration of special kids, we have run a few activities in which the kids were involve in painting, drawing and colouring. These activities help them to develop creativity and most importantly to let them have fun. Afterwards, we collected all the drawings done by the kids to showcase in the exhibition - Art for All. The exhibition was conducted at Taylor's lakeside which exhibits all the artworks. On the exhibition day, the kids were invited to campus and they had painting session too.
Reflection
After weeks of activites with the kids, I have learned to work with individuals who have special needs. Before I involved in these activities, I was unfamiliar with these special kids and never really had thought of what impact we could leave to them. They are in fact, kids with disabilities but that does not mean they are not able to live their lives to the fullest. What I have learnt is that we should treat these kids fairly with patience, care and love. The society, too, should equip with more understanding of the special kids as there is a number of individuals who need special cares out there. In fact, a lot of families with special children are often overlooked by the society and more attention should be paid for them to give them adequate help and care. Although we might not able to leave a significant impact for them, I have a sense of fufillment and contentment knowing that the kids had fun and unforgettable memories. The participation in this service experience makes me undertand the community and aware of variety of problems in this society. I hope that one day I can take part in these community services to help more people in need and leave an impact.
