Project 1: CONTEXTUAL ARCHITECTURE STUDY
In this individual project, I were required to identify a building in Asia to investigate through observation and readings on contemporary Contextual Architecture practices and issues in Asia. I have selected S11 house which is located at Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Next, I conducted literature review on its Malay vernacular architecture reference attributes such as culture, construction, structure, layout and so on. Contextual Architecture elements of S11 house were included as well. Through this project, I have gained a better undestanding of the Malay vernacular architecture and contextual arhitecture that have been adopted nowadays.
Project 2: CASE STUDY PAPER
Using the same building, I were asked to identify the specific topic/ issues/significance of study. My scope of study is on the effectiveness of ventilation in tackling the heat gain issue in a hot and humid climate. I had carried out comparative study between S11 house and Malay traditional house to further discuss my topic issue. Towards the end, I have learnt to generate a good research title that clearly reflects the research intention and specific scope of study. Also, I gained a deeper knowledge in the ventilation system implemented in contemporary house in reference to traditional house.
